Add to Calendar 2017-10-20 17:30 2017-10-20 John Hoffman - Twilight Jazz Trumpet at 6pm at Uptown Jazz Cafe JOHN HOFFMAN, American trumpet & flugelhorn virtuoso, who has called Australia home for many years, will be briefly in Melbourne and we are delighted to feature him at an early twilight session on Friday, October 20 at 6pm.

A fine instrumentalist, John learnt his trade through the likes of great bands of Woody Herman, Artie Shaw and so on, and has played consistently over the years “with all the greats”. He followed his heart to Australia about 40 years ago, put down roots in Brisbane, and has travelled back and forth across the Pacific since, as performer and mentor.

A review for Hoffman's lyrical flugelhorn stated that he played in a manner “which makes other trumpet players weep”.
He will be backed by the fine lineup, comprising Michael Harding, Geoff Kluke, Niko Schauble, Tony Hicks and John Montesante - with the latter being a longtime colleague, who provided Hoffman with his first professional job, upon his arrival in Australia.
